Position Location: Virtual. Preference given to candidates located in NY, MA, NH, VT, VA, IL, or OH

 

Position Summary: The Membership Coordinator manages the Mothers Out Front membership program in collaboration with organizers and Communications staff to foster a member community that builds our power and brings members together across the country. The Coordinator will carry out a range of development and communications activities including data management, production of acknowledgement letters, management of membership drives and annual appeals, generation of mailing lists and reports, coordination with design, print, and mailing contractors, and direct contact with Mothers Out Front members and members‐to‐be. The Coordinator also provides administrative support for the Development Team’s annual fundraising strategies including events, solicitation of major gifts, and donor outreach. Some evening and weekend work required to support special events and membership promotions.

About Mothers Out Front: Mothers Out Front is building a diverse national movement of  mothers, grandmothers, and other caregivers coming together to make climate change an issue that our leaders can no longer ignore. Our goal is to build a powerful grassroots movement to ensure a swift, complete, and just transition away from fossil fuels and toward clean and renewable energy. We enable mothers to take active leadership in protecting their children by providing the structure, training, and tools for them to work together on campaigns in their communities and at the statewide level. We are a growing volunteer-led, national organization with a current staff presence in Massachusetts, New York and Virginia, and providing remote support to teams across the country.

Responsibilities

The Membership Coordinator is a key role within Mothers Out Front whose responsibilities include the following:

Membership:

  • Provide a high level of service to foster strong relationships with members, non‐members, past donors, organizing and communications staff. Respond to member inquiries.

  • Work with staff and member teams to ensure consistent membership messaging across all avenues of prospective and current members.

  • Collaborate with Mothers Out Front volunteer teams and staff to develop membership communications materials, trainings, and strategy that facilitate a culture of learning and skill-building around diversity, inclusion, and equity.

  • Develop and implement plans to steward general membership with regular communications and unique member opportunities.

  • Monitor new member, member retention, and member upgrade rates. Suggest and implement strategies to expand member support.

  • Consistently use the member database to track interactions, run reports, and create lists.

  • Compile, analyze, and provide reports on membership composition and trends for staff members, the Fundraising and Membership Teams, and the Board.

  • Develop and support a National Membership Team.

Fundraising Support:

  • Coordinate the annual appeal, membership appeals and renewals, and special appeals, including preparing and distributing appeal letters/packets, overseeing production of mailing lists, and preparing all gift acknowledgement letters.

  • Conduct research and discovery interactions and engage the Director of Development when suspected donor capacity and interest are identified.

  • Manage the entry of all gifts into the donor database, currently NationBuilder.

  • Analyze donor cultivation plans, enter data, and track contacts within a moves management system for donors.

  • Work with graphic design and print contractors to produce high‐quality fundraising materials to meet deadlines.

  • Represent Mothers Out Front and conduct in‐person outreach at events, one‐on‐one
    meetings and other opportunities. May include evening and weekend events.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.

Qualifications

  • Strong relationship-building skills

  • A high level of individual initiative and creativity.

  • Experience with fundraising campaign and strategy development and implementation

  • Multicultural competencies, and demonstrated ability to work with people from a variety of ethnic, racial, socio-economic, educational, linguistic, and religious backgrounds, as well as people of various physical abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and generations

  • Strong, clear and accurate writing, editing, and verbal communication.

  • Experience working effectively with community groups and members

  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated follow through on tasks; multi-project/multi-task orientation

  • Attention to detail, high standards, and a passion for accuracy, especially error‐free data entry and writing.

  • Experience and passion for social and environmental justice, and commitment to addressing climate change

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years experience in nonprofit or campaign fundraising, membership, operations, and/or administration preferred.

  • A strong working knowledge and experience using donor database systems (Mothers Out Front currently uses NationBuilder).

  • The ability to work with limited supervision and successfully within a team. Experience working in a virtual office environment a plus.

  • The ability to rapidly learn and use new software. Experience with Google apps a plus.

  • Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising and membership best practices, tools, and techniques. A genuine interest in keeping abreast of trends in nonprofit fundraising and membership tools and techniques.
