Irondequoit moms, at their first house party, signed postcards asking New York State Senator Rich Funke to sponsor bill S1515, also known as the Surety Bill. Currently, if there is an accident or derailment of hazardous materials being shipped by rail, NYS taxpayers are on the hook for the emergency response and clean-up bill. Getting the Surety Bill signed into law would ensure that shippers of hazardous materials (by rail) assume the financial responsibility of any derailment/ or accident in NYS. Senator Funke, as your constituents and NYS taxpayers, we ask you to please protect our families and communities by co-sponsoring this bill.
