This is the same as trains that roll through our own Champlain Valley. Schools, play grounds, homes, businesses, the shoreline and the lake are in the “blast zones” mapped by government safety regulators. In the event of a derailment and explosion, our first-responders and other emergency personnel will be placed in great danger. And a spill into the lake would be an environmental catastrophe. Fourteen times in the last four years, oil trains have exploded in the U.S. and Canada.
Join Mothers Out Front and Others and hold a candle in a quiet vigil. Each candle will bear the name and age of each victim.
This is the 4th annual week of action remembering Lac Mégantic to call attention to the threat posed by the “bomb trains” close to home and across the country.
