Mothers Out Front is building a diverse national movement. Combining community organizing with the passion of mothers defending our children, we partner with organizations working to bring renewable energy and climate justice to all communities.
“We want communities most affected yet least responsible for burning of fossil fuels and climate change to play a big role in shaping the future we need. And we want people whose livelihoods depend on fossil fuels to transition in a way that doesn't sink them economically, and that actually creates more opportunities and stronger, safer communities.”
– Rev. Tiffany Curtis, Mothers Out Front Community Outreach Coordinator
El Puente - Brooklyn, NY
El Puente has been advocating for human rights institution for 33 years. Based in Brooklyn, NY, they promote leadership for peace and justice by engaging people in arts, education, scientific research, wellness and environmental action.
Together, Mothers Out Front and El Puente are engaging mothers in the Williamsburg communities in organizing campaigns that address the complex social and environmental crisis we all face, in particular our dangerous dependence on fossil fuel energy.
Luis Garden Acosta, Founder and President of El Puente, has cited climate change as the "moral challenge of the 21st century."
“It is time to build a bridge across class, color and communities to act as one, human family. Today, we commit ourselves to build a bridge, a puente, for all mothers - for they have nurtured us all and have always been 'out front' in our collective quest to develop and survive." - Luis Garden Acosta, on partnering with Mothers Out Front.
El Puente empowers their community to confront poverty, an epidemic of youth violence and a toxic environment. Joining Luis as co-founders are Frances Lucerna, Executive Director and Founding Principal of the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice, the first public high school for human rights in America and, Gina Maldonado, Chief of Operations.
In 33 years of inspiring and nurturing leaders for peace and justice, El Puente has:
- dissolved youth gangs and virtually eliminated street violence in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn;
- stopped the development of a legislated, 55 story incinerator in their community;
- co-founded the New York City Environmental Justice Alliance;
- assembled and led Puerto Rico’s first Leadership Summit on Climate Change, engaging all sectors of Puerto Rican society and fostering the Governor’s signature on five Executive Orders in support of climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resiliency.
We are honored and excited to work with El Puente to engage and support more mothers to organize for a swift and just energy transition to ensure a livable climate for all children.

Virginia Organizing - Virginia
Our most recent partner, Virginia Organizing is a non-partisan statewide grassroots organization dedicated to challenging injustice by empowering people in local communities to address issues that affect the quality of their lives. Virginia Organizing especially encourages the participation of those who have traditionally had little or no voice in our society. By building relationships with individuals and groups throughout the state, Virginia Organizing strives to get them to work together, democratically and non-violently, for change. We are excited to begin working with Virginia Organizing to amplify the voices of their communities in the face of extreme flooding.
