MOTHERS OUT FRONT JOINS THE GLOBAL CLIMATE STRIKES
National movement of mothers stand with youth to call for real action to address the climate crisis
BOSTON- September 13, 2019 - Mothers Out Front announces its support of the youth strikes during the Global Week of Action. Mothers will be joining rallies across the country to stand with youth in their call to address the climate crisis.
“As mothers, we feel the urgent need to lead the way forward to a clean energy economy and a livable climate,” said Ellen van Bever, Mothers Out Front National Leadership Team member of Cambridge, Massachusetts. “We have until 2030 to cut carbon emissions by half. The denial and inaction of prior generations have led to the mess we are in. To the youth around the world who are planning to strike this September 20th—you are not alone. We assure you that mothers will join the global climate strike and lead the way for other adults to join.”
Mothers Out Front has been convening parents around the country in an alliance in advance of the September 20-27th strikes. We provided training, resources and a space for planning, organizing and connecting to events around the US.
Mothers Out Front members will be at youth strikes all across the country.

Mothers Out Front members around the country have shown their commitment to a livable climate by:
- Building opportunities for clean energy and transportation through our electric school bus campaign and other initiatives.
- Working with communities on the frontlines of fossil fuel and climate change impacts. These are disproportionately communities of color whose health and livelihoods are harmed by industry practices, flooding, and other extreme weather events.
- Shutting down fossil fuel infrastructure and stopping the expansion of new infrastructure with our Beyond Gas Campaign.
Mothers Out Front is founded on the conviction that there is no more powerful force for change than women mobilizing to protect their children. Faced with the oncoming threat of the devastating climate crisis along with a range of present-day, damaging impacts stemming from fossil fuel extraction and use, it is building a diverse, national movement of mothers pushing for a swift transition from dirty to clean energy. Using a deep community organizing approach, it empowers mothers to step into active leadership roles within community-based teams, providing the structure, training, support and tools they need to develop and win community and statewide campaigns of their own choosing – such as getting clean energy legislation passed, stopping construction of new fossil fuel infrastructure, and addressing current health and safety issues linked to climate change and fossil fuel activity.
Founded in the Boston area in 2013, it has grown to have 47 community-based teams in nine states.
