MOTHERS OUT FRONT is sponsoring Local Environmental Action 2017!
Now in its 30th year, Local Environmental Action 2017 brings together community leaders and environmental activists from around New England.
Toxics Action Center, Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN), and allies, are offering a full day of workshops on pressing environmental and public health issues, including sessions on writing effective media, using digital tools, and moving New England to 100% renewable energy.
Local Environmental Action 2017 features two inspiring keynote speakers this year.
Kandi Mossett, an Indigenous leader and environmental justice heroine, has been on the frontlines of the fight to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. A member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, Kandi leads the fight by raising awareness about the environmentally and socially devastating effects of fracking on tribal lands.
"You're not guaranteed change when you make your voice heard against injustice; but you are guaranteed to fail if you choose to remain silent." -Kandi Mossett
Lois Gibbs was a housewife in 1978 when she learned that her neighborhood, Love Canal, was built on 21,000 tons of hazardous waste. After organizing her neighbors to win the cleanup, Lois founded the Center for Health, Environment & Justice and has helped communities across the country protect themselves from toxic exposures. Most recently, Lois has been on the ground in Flint, Michigan.
