New York State Strategy

In March 2016 in Brooklyn,  mothers from across New York (Rochester, Albany, Keene, Plattsburgh, Southern Tier, Brooklyn, and Manhattan) chose Long Island Offshore wind farm approval as their first Statewide Campaign Goal. Then in May  2016, at the Building Power Training in the Adirondacks, NYS mothers decided to kick off this statewide campaign on Tuesday, May 31st at 5pm.

The Kickoff went great!  Thank you to everyone who participated!  You can still help today!

May 31st was chosen because it was the date of the last Clean Energy Standard Hearing, and many allied groups organized a rally in Manhattan at 5pm to demonstrate support for NYS Clean Energy Standard to ensure the offshore wind farm is built. We are looking for power purchase agreements from the city, the state, and Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) for offshore wind. NY’s commitment to offshore wind should be long-term, large-scale, and megawatt specific.

Mothers decided this is the perfect time to show decision makers in our communities, our state, and the world that this wind farm needs to be built. It will move NYS closer to a swift, just and complete transition off fossil fuels so our children inherit a livable planet. May 31st may be the final day of the Clean Energy Standard hearings - but it is perfect timing for us to kick off our campaign. We are just getting started. NYS Mothers are organizing to build the political will to ensure the  offshore wind farm is built. Mothers in at least 5 communities around the state organized events for this campaign Kick Off (Manhattan, Rochester, Keene, Plattsburgh, Horseheads). We are standing up for offshore wind in our communities!

We’re ready to do this and we are determined to #WinWindNY #Mothers4OffShoreWind #LIOffshoreWind.

We are deeply grateful for all the individuals and organizations whose knowledge, expertise, creativity, and willingness to share resources and knowledge about this offshore wind strategy and campaign.
