Brookline, MA: Miyawaki Mini-Forest Planting

All-Ages Volunteers Plant First Brookline Mini-Forest

On Sunday, October 15, volunteers organized by the Department of Public Works and Brookline Mothers Out Front planted Brookline’s first mini-forest in the Brookline Avenue Playground. Pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, these small but mighty plots can provide a surprising array of climate and other eco-benefits. To learn more about this project, its benefits and how you can help maintain and enjoy this new resource, please click on this link to the Town’s website and sign up for the mini-forest newsletter! You can also click here to watch an engaging 30-minute documentary about Cambridge’s first mini-forest made by Brookline filmmaker Isabel Pisano.
