Mothers Out Front Celebrates Gov. Hochul’s Climate Focus, Urges State Lawmakers to Include NY HEAT Act in Budgets
Hochul’s push to limit gas system expansion is a major win for the mom-led climate group

Albany, NY – Mothers Out Front — an organization that aims to ensure a healthy climate for all children by transforming unjust systems — applauds Governor Hochul for prioritizing climate and the environment in this year’s budget, starting with limiting natural gas system expansion and matching utility regulations to the state’s climate laws. This demonstration of Hochul’s drive to implement key portions of the NY HEAT Act should signal other state lawmakers to follow suit.

“Governor Hochul’s push to prioritize the NY HEAT Act is a big step forward for all New Yorkers – kids, families, neighborhoods, and communities – who want to see a just transition to a healthier climate for all,” said Bella Cockerell, Mothers Out Front’s New York State Organizer. “New Yorkers can’t keep pouring more and more money into the outdated, unhealthy, and increasingly expensive fracked gas pipeline network that accelerates climate change, and Gov. Hochul is signaling her desire to meet the moment. We urge the rest of the state legislature to follow suit, and include the NY HEAT Act in their one-house budgets.”

MOF NY will also be calling on Governor Hochul and the legislature to put the NY HEAT Act in the budget, at a lobby day on Jan 23 at the State Capitol.
