Thank you to Mother Out Front Sarah Miles Smiley for this great story about her team!
I just want to share that Katie Hyams did an amazing job speaking at the Irvington Village Board meeting last night!
Speaking in front of a full house, she introduced Mothers Out Front and explained how as a mom, she can't sit on the sidelines as the climate crisis continues. She thanked the Village Trustees for the progress they're already making on environmental issues, and urged them to add a commitment to achieve 100% locally-generated renewable electricity by 2030. She included a great example of how going solar would provide economic benefits as well.
The room applauded, and the Mayor and Trustees appreciated our Mothers Day card that Katie gave them. The Mayor joked that it was the first time he'd been given a Mother's Day card. Someone immediately approached Katie to connect her with another woman who is working on these issues in the Village. It was a great way to introduce our group, and to set the stage for collaborative efforts.
(By the way, we also happened to learn about the expansion of composting efforts in the Village, and opportunities to table at the Farmers Market!)
A huge thanks to Katie for taking the time to prepare for this and to speak at the meeting!
