BOSTON- Mothers Out Front announced the receipt this week of a $1M gift from the Gordon and Llura Gund Foundation to support general operations and program expansion. This transformational gift will have significant, lasting effects on the organization, enabling it to make key foundational investments in staff, leadership capacity, systems and infrastructure.
“My wife Lulie and I and our family are extremely impressed with what Mothers Out Front is accomplishing,” said Gordon Gund. “We are pleased to make this additional gift to help Mothers Out Front develop an organization that can leverage its unique creativity, entrepreneurship, and energy to an even greater extent.”
“We are truly grateful for the trust, support, and partnership of the Gund family,” said Kelsey Wirth, Co-Founder and Chair of Mothers Out Front. “Their investment in Mothers Out Front, in combination with our growing base of support from members and foundation partners, positions us for even more rapid growth and expansion, consistent with the enormity and urgency of the challenges with which climate change presents us.”
In the nearly five years since Mothers Out Front was founded, it has grown to include a base of over 17,000 supporters, 1,000 active volunteers, 16 staff, and a growing track record of success. Thirty-eight community teams are working on campaigns in ten states to accelerate the transition from dirty to clean energy.
The plans for 2018 call for major growth, including expanding our organizing in new and existing states, growing gas leaks campaigns, and building capacity in frontline communities already being impacted by climate change and fossil fuel activity. The investment by the Gordon and Llura Gund Foundation, will allow Mothers Out Front to continue to build power to win key campaigns at the local and state levels to ensure a livable climate for all children.
