One of the most important tools we have to fight climate change is the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). This state law requires utilities to phase out their use of fossil fuels and replace them, year by year, with renewable energy sources.
As the law is currently written, utilities must increase their use of renewable energy sources at the rate of 1% per year. That's way too slow for the children we love!
The time to do this is now! The public hearing on the Renewable Portfolio Standard takes place before the Legislature’s Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy (TUE) Committee on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 1pm to 5pm at the State House.
Before the September 19 hearing, we ask you to take these steps:
- Ask your elected Representative to attend the hearing on September 19 and testify in support of increasing the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard by at least 3% per year, to achieve 50% renewable electricity by 2030. Find your Representative.
- Sign up on this Mothers Out Front calendar if you're able to attend the hearing at the State House.
- Help to pack the hearing room with mothers and others. Share the event on your own Facebook pages and send to your email lists.
