Mothers Out Front’s Downtown Boston team is a group of mothers and grandmothers working with allies to ensure a healthier environment and a livable climate for all children.
Since we discovered a Harvard/BU study on methane leaks from gas utility pipelines in greater Boston in early 2015, we have been working with allies on gas leaks.
The study revealed that there were at least 3,200 leaks in our area, amounting to 15 billion cubic feet of lost gas a year, enough to power 200,000 homes. This UAG (lost and unaccounted for gas) is valued conservatively at $90 million dollars a year, and impacts our health and safety. And we, the consumers of Boston, MA, are paying for it!
