Westchester rivertowns

About us

We are a team of moms and others working together to transition our communities off fossil fuels to renewable energy.  Our members mostly live in the villages along or near the Hudson River from Sleepy Hollow south to Hastings-on-Hudson, but all are welcome.  No experience or expertise required!  Your participation and concern for preserving a livable climate for all children is all we need to strengthen our movement and see real results.  There are different ways to get involved depending on your interests and availability.

Values

  • Climate justice
  • Teaching and learning about protecting the Earth
  • Building leadership
  • Helping each other

Current priorities

Our team’s campaigns are focused on the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions: transportation and buildings.  We are campaigning to transition our school districts from dirty diesel buses to zero emission electric school buses.  We are also raising awareness about alternatives to fossil fuels for heating our homes, and are advocating for large new construction developments to use high efficiency geothermal or air source heat pumps instead of highly polluting gas.

Along the way, we take part in environmental initiatives such as composting in the schools and creating pollinator gardens, and organize fun events like induction cooking workshops.

Regular meeting times

2nd Thursday of the month (7:30pm), and 4th Sunday of the month (10am)
