Dear Long Island residents,
Tell LIPA to accept the offshore wind farm proposal!
Mothers Out Front is an organization comprised of mothers, grandmothers and allies here on Long Island and elsewhere with the unified purpose of helping mothers be the proponents for change in their local communities. We have partnered with multiple organizations & various coalitions such as the Sierra Club and the SANE Energy Project to create a clean energy future for our children. We are coming together with a strong message for the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and the Public Service Enterprise Group (PSE&G). That message is: We want a clean energy future here in New York and elsewhere, for the health and well-being of our families and future generations. In all energy decisions that we make and allow to be made in our names, their lives are at stake.
The first step in that direction is this: We ask LIPA/ PSE&G to accept the proposal they currently have from Deep Water Wind to construct a 90 megawatt (MW) wind farm off the coast of the South Fork of Long Island. This is a great opportunity to introduce clean energy here on the island and will be an opportunity for us to be leaders here on the east coast of the US. The wind farm will be far enough from the coast of the island to be nearly invisible from the shoreline and will have no increased noise impact on residents.
Our goal is to make our communities more sustainable by switching to a carbon-free economy as swiftly and justly as possible. Please join us by signing onto this letter telling LIPA/PSE&G and Governor Cuomo that you are in favor of a clean energy future, starting with the construction of the wind farm off the South Fork. Then, join us on July 20, 2016, at LIPA’s next board meeting where they will announce their decision as to whether they will accept the proposal from Deep Water Wind. We hope that you will stand with us in solidarity!
