The Specialized Energy Code is a new building code that goes a bit beyond Bedford’s current Stretch Code to ensure that new construction is consistent with our town’s net zero goals and with state mandates for emissions reduction. It encourages all-electric construction but does not prohibit gas. Buildings that use gas must be pre-wired for conversion to all-electric, saving purchasers from costly future retrofits. In addition, buildings that use gas must have solar panels to offset emissions. The Specialized Code applies only to new construction and does not apply to additions or renovations of existing structures. All questions are welcome!

Presenters: Dan Bostwick of the Energy and Sustainability Committee and Joanne Bissetta, Director of Green Communities Division of the MA Department of Energy Resources
